Stamford, Lincolnshire; about 100 miles north of London off the A1 to York. This frightfully gorgeous Dickensian town was left mainly untouched from the architectural blights of the Industrial Revolution; and remains a village with “street after street of sixteenth, seventeenth, and eighteenth century timber-framed and stone buildings” perfect for a Halloween day trip.
